Five homeless after Fyrish fire

A family of five is now faced with an urgent need for support after a fire destroyed their home on Monday afternoon.

Nazeema Shivmangal, her husband, and their three children, aged 3, 7, and 8, were living in a three-bedroom wooden and concrete house they rented at Fyrish Village, Region Six. Nazeema’s brother-in-law also resided on the property.

In an interview with the News Room, Shivmangal recounted that around 14:30 hrs, she picked up her two children from school and proceeded to meet her husband two streets away. Within minutes, she received the shocking news that their house was engulfed in flames. Without hesitation, she rushed to the scene.

The Rose Hall Town Fire Station was alerted, and firefighters quickly responded.

Divisional Fire Officer Clive McDonald confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

Shivmangal lamented that her family lost everything in the blaze.

She said they are currently staying with a relative until they can secure assistance to rebuild their lives.

“I don’t have anywhere to go; I don’t have anything left. It’s okay if anyone want to assist us,” she related.
