Some $706 million in ‘Because We Care’ cash grants will be distributed across Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) in 2025. The parents receiving these cash grants have hailed it a “fast” process.

The News Room visited several schools in the region on Wednesday and spoke with several parents including Nagindra Bisheswar. He is the parent of a student at the Hampton Court Primary School who, like many others, said, “The process was easy, it was fast and simple.”

Similar sentiments were shared by other parents, Padminie Mohammed and Haimlall Persaud, both of whom are parents of students at the Anna Regina Secondary School.

“The procedure is very easy here compared to the last time I was here,” Mohammed said.

“It was well organized by the Ministry of Education,” Persaud echoed.

Alpha Romascindo, the guardian for a student enrolled at the C.V. Nunes Primary School, said the smooth process was impressive since it was her first time collecting the money for her sister, a Grade Six student.

This year, the grant increased from $40,000 in 2024 to $50,000, coupled with the $5,000 uniform allowance. A total of $11 billion was allocated in the 2025 National budget to support 205,000 children in public and private schools nationwide.

Navita Deonauth, a parent said, “It’s to get all of her school stuff, I’m happy for it.”

Dherendra Deonarine, a single parent, said, “It’s a great benefit because this is to purchase all the necessary materials for the kids, along with school uniforms and everything relating education for the children.”

Babita Seecharand, another parent, said it is a good initiative from the Ministry of Education. “I thank the Ministry of Education for putting our children interest [to give us] this cash grant,” she said.

Some persons have also said that the money will be saved for future use or invested for extra classes to support the children’s academic journey.
