Gunshots shatter South Ruimveldt home window as sleeping family escapes injury

A 34-year-old gold miner and his family were left shaken but unharmed after gunshots shattered a bedroom window at their South Ruimveldt, Georgetown home late Monday night.

Police have confirmed that the shooting occurred at around 23:30 hrs on at Lot 567 Toucan Drive, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

According to reports, Rickford Horilall, who resides at the two-storey wooden and concrete house with his wife and stepdaughter, had returned from the interior earlier that day, around 11:00 hrs.

Later that night, while he and his reputed wife were asleep, they were jolted awake by the sound of two loud explosions believed to be gunshots. Upon investigation, Horilall discovered a broken glass window in their bedroom, and two small metal fragments were found on the floor inside.

Despite looking outside immediately, he was unable to see anyone in the vicinity.

Police detectives visited the scene and processed the area. Investigators recovered the two metal fragments, suspected to be components of ammunition, from inside the bedroom. Several persons in the neighbourhood were questioned, but no useful leads have been obtained so far.

No injuries were reported, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Investigations are ongoing.
