7-0 defeat for Guyana against Puerto Rico in Concacaf Women’s U-20 C’ship

Guyana ended a forgettable campaign in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship, losing a third straight match in emphatic fashion, this time against Puerto Rico.

Competing in Group A at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica, Guyana lost 7-0 to the Puerto Ricans.

Unbeaten table-toppers USA and second place Costa Rica advanced to the semi-finals and earned their place in the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Guyana’s campaign ended without a goal scored, losing 8-0 to the USA and 9-0 to host nation Costa Rica to finish bottom of the table, with Puerto Rico in third spot in the group.

Notably, Guyana was the only Caribbean nation to qualify for the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship.

Puerto Rico got their opening goal from Ashley McMahon in the fifth with a right-footed strike from outside the box to place Las Boricuas in front.

Estefanía González doubled the lead in the ninth with a header off a corner kick. Susana Roberts added a third for Puerto Rico in the 34^th to obtain a three-goal lead at the half.

Gabriella Garnett continued the scoring in the second half, netting in the 59^th, and then adding another 10 minutes later from outside the box.

McMahon struck with her right foot in the 85^th to earn her brace, followed by Roberts in the 90’+3′ to complete her double.
