A 60-year-old Chinese businessman was robbed of $70,000 in cash on Wednesday evening during a daring attack at his business place, WF Fast Food Restaurant, located in D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown.

The incident occurred around 18:55 hrs and involved four suspects — two males and two females — all of African descent and believed to be juveniles. Police are now investigating the matter as a case of Robbery with Aggravation.

According to reports, the victim, Zhao Pe Lizhan, was seated inside the building behind the counter when the four suspects entered the premises and approached him. In a calculated move, one male and one female suspect held onto the businessman’s neck and hand, while the remaining two made their way to the cash register and emptied it of the day’s sales, amounting to $70,000 in Guyanese currency.

The group then fled the scene, escaping westward into the D’Urban Backlands area.

The Guyana Police Force has since processed the crime scene and is currently reviewing CCTV footage from the establishment in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspects.

No arrests have been made at this time, and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information that may assist the police is encouraged to come forward.
