Ranks of the Custom Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) arrested an individual on Tuesday following the discovery of 700 ecstasy pills near a popular bar in Skeldon, Berbice.

In a statement, CANU said it conducted an operation near the bar after it received certain information. A search was conducted, and in an alleyway near the bar, the ranks discovered a red, bulky plastic bag containing a quantity of pills suspected to be ecstasy.

The pills were taken to the CANU’s Berbice office, where it was counted and weighed.

The total weight of the pills was 600 grammes.

One person was arrested and is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.

CANU reiterated its commitment to disrupting the illicit drug trade. The agency urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
