A 31-year-old man lost his life in the early hours of Saturday following a high-speed crash at the intersection of Camp Street and Carifesta Avenue, near the Everest Cricket Ground in Georgetown.

The deceased has been identified as Christopher Rohaman of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. He was the driver and sole occupant of motor car #PAB 5434.

Police investigations so far reveal that the fatal accident occurred at approximately 00:20 hrs. Rohaman was reportedly proceeding north along the western drive lane of Camp Street at a fast rate when, on approaching the Carifesta Avenue intersection, he lost control of the vehicle. The car slammed into a light pole on the western side of the road before veering off and plunging into a nearby trench several feet away.

Emergency Medical Technicians attached to ambulance #PAJ 1054 responded to the scene and extricated Rohaman, who was found pinned inside the wreckage in an unconscious state. He was immediately placed in the ambulance and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit.

Despite efforts, Rohaman was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. His body has since been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
