Two men lost their lives in a tragic accident along the Belle Vue Public Road, West Coast Berbice on Sunday.

The dead men have been identified as Davin Daniels, 29, from Hopetown Village and 49-year-old Mark George from Belle Vue.
The accident occurred at about 05:40hrs.

Police Headquarters reported that Daniels was driving the car while George was sitting under a bus shed.

According to the report, Daniels was speeding while driving east along the northern side of the Belle Vue Public Road when he lost control of the vehicle. He then swerved to the southern side of the road, and first collided with a vegetable stand. The car continued further east and collided with a bus shed where George was sitting.

The vehicle further continued speeding east and crashed into a utility pole on the southern side of the road and finally came to a halt. As a result of the collision, the light pole broke and fell destroying a wash bay shed.

Following the accident, George was pinned under the bus shed while Daniels was pinned in his vehicle.

Both men received injuries to their heads and bodies and were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The bodies are presently lying at Bailey’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
