Remanded drug trafficker granted $750K bail

More than a month after he was intercepted and subsequently charged, Olrick Fingal was granted $750,000 bail for a drug trafficking charge.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted Fingal bail on Monday when he made this second court appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Fingal was charged with having 3.8 kilogrammes of cannabis in his possession for trafficking on May 19.

The offence was committed on May 16 at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.

He had denied the allegation and was remanded to prison.

On Tuesday, when the case was called again, Attorney Bernard DaSilva made a bail application, which was granted.

The case was adjourned to October 14 for the commencement of a trial.

The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU), in a statement, had said ranks acting on information received conducted an operation in the vicinity of the Royal Hotel on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.

In doing this, Fingal was intercepted. A search was conducted, and eight parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis, a CZ pistol, and 19 rounds of live ammunition were found in Fingal’s possession.

Fingal was never charged concerning firearm and ammunition possession.

Following the interaction, Fingal was taken to CANU headquarters, where an investigation was conducted, followed by the charge being laid.
