Albouystown woman arrested for smuggling SIM cards into Camp Street Prison

A 29-year-old woman from Albouystown, Georgetown was arrested after she allegedly attempted to smuggle seven SIM cards into the Camp Street Prison for an inmate.

Shevaghn Samuels, of 11 Hogg Street, was caught on Monday during a routine search around 09:15 hrs. Prison officers discovered the SIM cards cleverly hidden inside a tube of Colgate toothpaste among items she brought for her imprisoned friend, Ray Smith.

The concealed contraband was uncovered during standard security checks. Samuels was immediately handed over to the police and is expected to appear in court shortly to face charges.

Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, has since issued a stern warning, reminding the public about the dangers and consequences of smuggling contraband into correctional facilities.

“Such activities not only put the lives of inmates and officers at risk but also threaten the security and integrity of our entire prison system,” Elliot cautioned.

The Guyana Prison Service continues to urge citizens to desist from such illegal acts, noting that anyone caught aiding or abetting the smuggling of contraband faces severe legal penalties.
