Andre Russell has been recalled to the West Indies’ T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against Australia.

The first two matches in his home country, Jamaica, are understood to be his farewell appearances in international cricket.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) officially announced the 16-member squad on Wednesday.

The squad will compete from July 20-28 at Sabina Park in Jamaica and Warner Park in St. Kitts.

The squad largely retains the core group that recently secured a series victory against Ireland, augmented by the exciting inclusions of Jewel Andrew and Jediah Blades, who have earned their maiden T20I call-ups.

Andrew, an 18-year-old batting prospect and backup wicketkeeper, has impressed selectors with his aggressive intent and versatility against spin bowling, making him one of the region’s brightest emerging talents.

Left-arm seamer Blades, who made his international debut against Bangladesh in 2024, was a standout performer in the inaugural West Indies Breakout League. He consistently claimed wickets in the powerplay.

Shai Hope will continue to captain the side, supported by seasoned campaigners Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, and Rovman Powell.

Head Coach Daren Sammy emphasized the team’s focus on improving their T20I ranking and building momentum towards the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

“Our goals and strategic plans are aligned to winning the T20 World Cup in 2026,” Sammy stated. “We have continuity in the squad from the previous series, and as a unit, we will continue to fine-tune our style and brand ahead of the World Cup.”

Sammy also highlighted the importance of regaining a winning record on home soil.

“Our previous two T20 series at home we were on the wrong end of the results, but starting against Australia, we want to regain our form at home as we build momentum into next year’s World Cup with our exciting and dynamic group of players.” (Modified CWI release)
