Mocha businesswoman shot dead during robbery attempt

Police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of 43-year-old Desiree Hyman, a businesswoman and clothing vendor of Lot 625 Mocha, East Bank Demerara.

The incident occurred around 14:30 hrs at her boutique located at Lot 297 Mocha.

According to police reports, Hyman was approached by two masked men on a motorcycle, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects reportedly attempted to rob her, but she resisted. During the struggle, she was shot six times.

The gunshot wounds were detailed as follows:

* Three to the left side of her lower abdomen

* Two to the right side of her lower abdomen

* One shot under her right breast

The suspects fled the scene on the motorcycle, heading north. Emergency Medical Technicians from the Eccles Fire Service responded, and a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) later pronounced Hyman dead at 16:40 hrs.

Police, led by Superintendent Wayne DeHearte, Commander of Regional Division 4B, processed the scene. Investigators recovered two 9mm spent shells and one suspected projectile approximately three feet from the victim’s body.

Hyman’s body has been taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Law enforcement officials are reviewing surveillance footage from several nearby CCTV cameras as investigations continue.
