As the 1 September 2025 regional and general elections approach, new faces on the PPP’s regional list for Region One (Barima-Waini) say the party’s plan for the next five years will continue the ongoing development agenda and is built on sound thinking.

Andrew Cox, one of the new candidates, on Wednesday night described the party’s plans as a “serious, results-driven blueprint for progress” and said it is not just promises.

Showing a document with areas of priority that could be included in the party’s manifesto, he declared, “This is not a fairytale.”

Cox was among the new candidates from Region One who addressed a rally in Mabaruma on Wednesday night.

He pointed to the “massive transformation and development” that has taken place over the past five years, emphasising the importance of unity in maintaining momentum.

“Once we stick together, the government will continue with the progress we are currently seeking.

“We know that we are supporting a party that has been there for us and will continue to be there for us, and they have evidence to show, because they have a track record,” Cox said.

Also joining the PPP/C’s list is Cassandra Fiedtkou, who previously aligned herself with the Opposition APNU. She said her decision to switch was grounded in reality.

“I have officially joined the PPP/C because of what I have seen. I was with APNU and I left because I am tired of empty promises. I am seeing what is real leadership – leadership with a vision… with action… with real transformation, in every community,” Fiedtkou said.

The development across all sectors, Fiedtkou said, is not just being talked about – it is being lived.

“These are not just promises. You are witnessing the transformation,” she asserted.

“This is what it looks like when our future generation rises. Our youths are our future generation. This is what it looks like under the PPP.”

Both candidates emphasised that the PPP/C’s manifesto is filled with real commitments aimed at improving the lives of every citizen.
