Guyana is poised to make history as it prepares to host the entire 2025 Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) for the first time.

The tournament, featuring world-class women’s T20 cricket, will be held from September 6 to 17 at the National Stadium in Providence.

The fourth edition of the WCPL will see three formidable franchises battle for supremacy: the home team Guyana Amazon Warriors, two-time defending champions Barbados Royals, and former winners Trinbago Knight Riders.

These teams will compete across six high-intensity group stage matches, culminating in a thrilling final on September 17.

Each team is scheduled to play four group-stage matches, with the top two sides advancing to the championship decider.

The tournament was officially launched on Wednesday at Massy’s head office in Montrose, East Coast Demerara.

The title sponsor expressed immense pride and elation regarding the profound impact the tournament is expected to have on young girls and women across the region.

Massy Guyana CEO Troy Beharry underscored the significance of Guyana hosting every match.

“For the first time in this tournament’s history, Guyana will host every single match, and we couldn’t be more proud,” Beharry stated.

“This isn’t just a cricketing milestone; it’s a celebration of Guyana as a vibrant hub of Caribbean sport, culture, and talent.”

He further emphasised Massy’s commitment beyond mere sponsorship: “For Massy, this goes beyond cricket; it speaks to what we value and stand for. We are not just sponsoring a tournament; we are investing in possibilities, and we are backing the extraordinary talent of Caribbean women who represent courage, excellence, and determination.”

The presence of several players from the competing teams at the launch event highlighted the growing prominence of women’s cricket in the Caribbean.

The tournament is anticipated to be a powerful platform, inspiring the next generation of female athletes and reinforcing the region’s dedication to gender equality through sport.
