Daniel Williams, the headteacher of the Three Miles Secondary School in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni), died on Monday night while addressing a public meeting.

Mr. Williams was addressing a People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) public meeting in Agatash, Region Seven. He collapsed during his presentation and was later pronounced dead.

Tributes poured in after his passing.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali said Daniel dedicated his life to serving the community.

“To his wife, two children, and other loved ones, I extend my heartfelt condolences. I pray that God grant you strength and courage during this difficult time.

“We thank our comrade for his dedicated service. We will honour his work with a deeper commitment and hard work to ensure the development of Region Seven and our country continues under the PPP/C,” the President said on Facebook.

“Daniel was an educator and community leader whose unwavering dedication to improving the lives of those around him will be remembered by all who had the honour of knowing him,” the PPP/C said in a statement.

Ganesh Mahipaul, an A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) member, said his party was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mr. Williams.

“Mr. Williams was an educator, a community leader, and a citizen who believed in service to his country. Regardless of political affiliation, his passing is a loss to the nation, especially to the young minds he helped shape and the community he served,” the statement shared on Mahipaul’s Facebook page noted.

APNU’s Prime Ministerial candidate and Bartician, Juretha Fernandes also had kind words to share.

“I always saw him as a worthy political opponent, one who engaged without venom, with quiet determination rather than aggression. Even when we disagreed, there was mutual respect. I never passed him without acknowledging him, and though I spoke candidly about our political differences, I always acknowledged his humility and his genuine love for Bartica. In a world where politics can often turn bitter, Sir Daniel stood out as one of the more reserved, even timid, figures, yet his impact was undeniable,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
