Shemroy Robertson was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined $30,000 after he was found guilty of aiding the commission of trafficking 1.174 kilogrammes (or about 2.59 pounds) of cannabis.

A release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) noted that the conviction stemmed from a CANU operation conducted on June 17th, 2021, during which officers intercepted a minibus at Ann’s Grove Public Road, E.C.D., and arrested a suspect with the said quantity of cannabis. Robertson was subsequently arrested in relation to the operation on June 28th, 2021.

He appeared before Magistrate Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Friday and was found guilty of the offence.

It was also noted that he was previously arrested and charged on January 15th, 2016, along with one other suspect, with the possession of 1.156 kilogrammes of cocaine. The other suspect was released, and Robertson was ordered to stand trial in the High Court. However, CANU noted that the man was granted $600,000 bail, which is still pending.
