Woman, 72, dies in East Coast accident


A 72-year-old woman from Corentyne, Berbice, died after she was involved in an accident along the Dutch Four Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Monday at about 07:30hrs.
Dead is Grace Lyte. Police Headquarters reported that she was in a motorcar (PAH 8915) owned and driven by Thaddeus Lyte, 46.
According to reports, Thaddeus overtook a line of traffic and collided head-on with a truck being driven by a 22-year-old resident of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara
Police said Thaddeus was speeding. Both vehicles ended up in a trench on the southern side of the road.
As a result of the collision, Thaddeus and Grace sustained injuries. EMTs were summoned and both were picked up in a conscious state and conveyed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Grace was later pronounced dead at about 09:30 hours on Monday while Thaddeus was treated and sent away.
He was placed into custody, assisting with the investigation.
