Deputy Chief Elections Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Aneal Giddings, has assured that security arrangements are being put in place for communities along the Guyana/Venezuela border ahead of the upcoming General and Regional Elections, scheduled for 1 September 2025.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Giddings noted that special attention is being paid to areas within District Seven, such as Kaikan and Eteringbang, as well as communities in Region One.

“We have interacted with both the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana Police Force, and for polling day we have already engaged with the Guyana Police Force. As a matter of fact, they have provided us with some guidelines,” Giddings stated.

He noted, however, that there are still some arrangements to be ironed out before 1 September.

He further assured that security measures will also be put in place for members of the Disciplined Forces to cast their ballots on Friday, 22 August.

“We are well poised for the conduct of these elections on Friday. All of the logistical arrangements have been made. At this point in time there is nothing, aside from perhaps force majeure, that can prevent such conduct,” Giddings said at the press conference.

Meanwhile, as final discussions are ongoing, Giddings reiterated that assurances of security have already been given.

“We have been guaranteed security. Plans are not final, but we are set to resume talks with the security forces to outline what measures will be in place and what our expectations should be,” he said.

A total of 757,690 voters have been registered to vote in the upcoming polls at 2,790 polling stations across the country.
