Hicken warns ranks ahead of elections: ‘Professionalism and neutrality will define the force’

With just weeks to go before Guyanese head to the polls, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken has moved to tighten discipline and sharpen preparedness within the Force.

On Tuesday morning, Commissioner Hicken, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Ravindradat Budhram, held a pre-elections operational muster with ranks from Police Headquarters at the Tactical Services Unit Drill Square, Eve Leary.

Addressing the gathering, the Top Cop issued a stern caution—reminding officers that there will be consequences for any actions taken outside of the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the official policies of the Guyana Police Force.

Underscoring the heightened responsibility of the Force during the election period, Hicken called on ranks to remain professional, neutral, and prepared at all times. He stressed that the integrity of the Guyana Police Force will be judged by the conduct of its officers as they interact with members of the public.

In addition, Commissioner Hicken revealed that newly promoted ranks will soon undergo specialised training at the Police Academy. The training, he explained, is designed to enhance their operational capacity and professionalism, with each officer receiving certification upon completion.

He closed his remarks by commending the ranks for their service and urging them to continue to uphold the highest standards of policing as the country approaches a critical period in its democratic process.

The muster forms part of a series of engagements by the Police Force aimed at ensuring full readiness for the elections season.
