PPP/C eyes aviation school in next term

The incumbent PPP/C has outlined ambitious plans to transform Guyana’s aviation sector in its 2025 manifesto, including the establishment of a state-of-the-art aviation school that will train and certify personnel locally.

According to the manifesto, which was launched on Monday at the Pegasus Corporate Center, the aviation school will be equipped to train individuals across all areas of aviation, from pilots and engineers to air traffic controllers and ground staff.

Though specific details have not yet been made public, it is expected that the facility will also have the capacity to train and certify pilots here in Guyana, eliminating the need for costly overseas training.

The PPP/C said the school will be established through a collaboration with the private sector. Details on the proposed location for the school have not yet been released.

The party noted that this move is part of its wider strategy to modernize the aviation sector, which is becoming increasingly critical as Guyana continues to expand its economy and attract greater international interest.

In recent years, the government has facilitated new international flight routes, expanded air connectivity across the Caribbean, North America, and Europe, and embarked on major upgrades to hinterland airstrips, including the development of new ones.

The upgrade of hinterland airstrips, in particular, has been described as a lifeline for Indigenous communities, miners, health workers, and entrepreneurs who depend on reliable air transport for goods and services.

If re-elected on September 1, the PPP/C said it will not only deliver the aviation school but also continue investments in air transport infrastructure, modernization of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with a new terminal, and municipal airports at Lethem and Rose Hall/Canje.
These investments, the party has said, are aimed at further boosting the role of aviation as a driver of economic growth and development.
