PPP/C’s manifesto built on credibility, realism and results – Dr. Ashni Singh

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, has drawn a sharp contrast between the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s (PPP/C) newly launched 2025–2030 manifesto and those of the opposition parties, stressing that the ruling party’s track record and credibility set it apart.

Speaking during an interview aired on the National Communications Network (NCN) Berbice, Dr. Singh argued that while other parties peddle “lofty and fanciful promises” designed only to entice voters, the PPP/C continues to present a comprehensive, realistic plan grounded in economic realities and a proven history of delivery.

“They are not grounded in a comprehensive vision for the country. They are not grounded in any kind of strategic framework, and they are not grounded in any kind of macroeconomic reality or context,” Dr. Singh said, referring to the opposition’s manifestos. “Compare and contrast that with the People’s Progressive Party’s manifesto, that first of all, is grounded within a strategic framework. We state clearly what our strategic objectives are in every aspect and facet of life.”

The Senior Minister emphasised that the PPP/C manifesto is not only visionary but also practical, rooted in a macroeconomic framework that recognises both opportunities and risks. He credited Vice President and General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo for clearly outlining these risks at the launch of the manifesto, noting that Guyana’s economy remains heavily commodity-based despite the oil boom.

“Guyana is still a gold-producing economy, a bauxite-producing economy, a sugar- and rice-producing economy. We are still subject to the ebb and flow of the global economy and uncertainty in commodity prices,” Dr. Singh explained. “And as an oil-producing and commodity-producing economy, we must be mindful of the risks of Dutch disease. The PPP/C has articulated a policy framework to mitigate this risk. No other party has done so.”

According to Dr. Singh, what makes the PPP/C’s approach stand out is its candour and rigor in laying out the realities of the world economy while presenting solutions tailored to Guyana’s circumstances. He described the manifesto as comprehensive, forward-looking, and committed to translating national prosperity into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.

“That alone is a loud statement about the seriousness, the rigor, and the comprehensiveness of what we’ve presented,” he concluded.

The PPP/C launched its 2025–2030 manifesto last week, promising a transformative agenda to continue Guyana’s rapid development while safeguarding the economy against global shocks.
