Paul Yearwood, who was a vocal member of A New and United Guyana (ANUG), now says he will vote for the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) at the upcoming polls.

In a Facebook post detailing why he will vote for the party, Yearwood posited that the other political contenders are threats to Guyana.

The former ANUG member explained that the PPP/C has shown it will vacate office if defeated in the elections, an action he said the other parties have already noted that they will not do.

“Those other parties will never vacate office again if they get into power.

“The PPP will go and learn from their mistakes, plan, and come better. They have learnt, they have come better. They’re going to get even better in the future. Hopefully they get rid of their driftwood, baggage, anchors,” Yearwood wrote in his Facebook post.

Beyond this, he said the party has the expertise, experience, and ability to manage Guyana. These are attributes, he said, that the other parties don’t possess.

He emphasised, “Nobody else, especially not Win or APNU, AFC, WPA, who have been race-baiting and promising to run riot if they don’t get their way.”

“Vote PPP because anyone else is a clear danger to Guyana and Guyanese.”

The former ANUG member took particular aim at the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, led by sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed, stating that the party is reminiscent of

“Now we have another wannabe party with the same emperor tendencies as AFC/APNU. Same luxurious ivory towers, same symptoms, exactly like that previous STD,” he lamented.

Yearwood was also critical of the APNU+AFC coalition’s governance from 2015 to 2020, stating that greed and incompetence were abhorrent. The coalition lost the 2020 elections but held onto power for five months after the elections until President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the PPP/C were finally sworn in.

Meanwhile, Yearwood also confirmed that he resigned from ANUG in 2020. Weeks ago, ANUG and WIN announced that they would be collaborating for the upcoming elections.
