Azruddin Mohamed’s failed business empire, built on bribery and corruption from gold operations, has shown he is incapable of running anything and is incapable of running Guyana, and so Guyanese must not buy his bluff and vote for him, President Irfaan Ali declared Friday night.

“Azruddin Mohamed is a bluff. He has demonstrated that he is incapable of running anything. He is in this for himself,” President Ali told the News Room Friday night, stressing that Azruddin’s actions triggered U.S. scrutiny and jeopardised Guyana’s reputation.

On June 11, 2024, the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Azruddin, his father Nazar, and several of their companies, including Mohamed’s Enterprise, Hadi’s World, and Team Mohamed’s Racing, over alleged gold smuggling and corruption.

President Ali, during an exclusive interview with the News Room, warned that Azruddin’s ambitions are dangerous for the country.

By tying Azruddin directly to the U.S. sanctions, President Ali sought to underline the risks of entrusting national leadership to someone whose business empire has already been discredited on the global stage.

“He puts our sovereignty at risk, he puts our financial system at risk, and he puts our people at risk. We cannot take that risk,” the President cautioned.

He described Azruddin as duplicitous and self-serving.

“He changes his answer to every question. He is filled with hypocrisy. He doesn’t care a darn about Guyana,” Ali said.

With national elections just two days away, President Ali urged voters to reflect on the kind of leadership the country needs.

“Our electorate understands the seriousness of this election, the challenges we face as a country, and will vote on the merit of what we’ve delivered,” he affirmed.
