Miner killed in attack at Issano Landing; one suspect in custody

Thirty-six-year-old Junior Williams, a miner of Pamela Road, Mahdia was fatally chopped during an attack early Saturday morning at 14 Miles Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 05:00 hrs while Williams was socialising and consuming alcohol at the landing. He was reportedly confronted by two men in what appeared to be an attempted robbery.

Williams, who was armed with a knife, initially managed to fend off the attackers. However, the suspects returned moments later with a cutlass and inflicted several severe chop wounds before fleeing the scene.

A resident, alerted by the commotion, found Williams lying on the ground and sought assistance from other locals. Williams was transported to the Mahdia District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His body was examined and there were two wounds: one to the right hand and another between the right index finger and thumb. Police said one suspect is in custody assisting with the investigation.
