The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has maintained its control of Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) with an increase in votes following Monday’s General and Regional Elections.

The official declaration from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) indicates the incumbent party has secured the majority of votes (9,938), an increase from the 7,070 secured in the general elections in 2020.

Newcomer, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), copped the second most votes (4,817), followed by A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) with 450 and the Alliance For Change (AFC) with 192.

In the regional elections, PPP/C got 9,853 votes, an increase from the 7,066 secured in 2020, followed by WIN with 4,794, APNU with 430 and AFC with 265.

As the nation awaits the official final results, projections indicate that the PPP/C, led by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, is on track to secure overall victory in the September 1 polls.
