The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has secured another victory in District Three (Essequibo Islands–West Demerara).

Official results from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Wednesday show that the PPP/C garnered a massive 48,055 votes, far ahead of the new political party, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), which received 12,969 votes.

The opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) secured 8,992 votes, while smaller parties trailed: the Alliance for Change (AFC) with 322 votes, the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity with 138 votes, and the Forward Guyana Movement with 522 votes.

A total of 70,998 valid ballots were cast in the region. GECOM reported 311 spoiled ballots, 17 destroyed ballots, and 563 rejected ballots. The rejected ballots included nine without an official mark, 265 that were unmarked or void of uncertainty, and 276 marked for more than one party.

District Three, one of the country’s largest electoral districts, had 116,876 registered voters across three sub-districts.

In the last General and Regional Elections in 2020, the PPP/C also secured a victory in District Three with 47,851 votes, compared to 23,808 votes by the then APNU+AFC coalition.
