BREAKING: APNU comes out with less votes after recount they requested

With the recount and tabulation completed for votes cast in District Four, Aubrey Norton’s PNC-led Coalition APNU has come out with less votes.

The original vote count showed APNU with 46,956 votes for District Four, but the recount showed them with 46,949; that’s seven votes less. The incumbent People’s Progressive Party gained two votes, moving from 87,536 to 87,538.

The newcomer WIN maintained its 41,607 votes after the recount.

The recount also showed that the AFC lost four votes with 1,761 as opposed to the original count of 1,765.

The Forward Guyana Movement received 2,431 votes in the original count but moved up six votes to 2,437.

The ALP maintained its 497 votes.

APNU was the one that requested the recount, but later called for the electoral process to be abandoned and for there to be new elections.

The Chair of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Justice (Retd) Claudette Singh, has reminded him that any party aggrieved by the outcome of the elections will have the right to file an appeal with the High Court.

The results of the elections, as declared in all 10 electoral districts, show that the PPP/C has won the elections, with APNU coming in third, just after WIN. Those results show the PPP/C having 46,000 votes more than the combined total of the other five parties that contested the elections.
