Gov’t maps out plans for fertiliser, data and glass plants at Wales

The government has mapped out plans for its flagship Wales Industrial Zone, setting aside land for a data centre, an ammonia/urea plant, and a glass factory, President Irfaan Ali said on his Facebook page Monday.

He said an updated master plan of the site on the West Bank of the Demerara River now details both existing and proposed energy infrastructure, with industrial allocations aimed at leveraging cheaper power from the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project.

In relation to fertiliser production, the President was told by officials that 20 million cubic feet per day (MCFD) of gas will be allocated to a plant capable of producing 300 tonnes per year (TPY) of urea, a key nitrogen-based agricultural fertiliser. Government officials agreed to move discussions forward with international and local firms that have expressed interest in investing.

The Wales Industrial Zone is being positioned as a hub for heavy industry and new technology enterprises, underpinned by natural gas power generation and other downstream energy projects.
