Police seize over 80 lbs of cannabis in Hitia Savannahs

Guyanese police seized more than 81 lbs of suspected cannabis during patrols in the Hitia Savannahs, Berbice River on Tuesday, authorities said.

The Guyana Police Force said the discovery was made between 04:30 hrs and 19:40 hrs while officers were conducting routine patrols in the area.

Around 17:35 hrs, ranks detected the scent of cannabis near a bridge, which led to further searches.

Police said officers recovered three bulky plastic bags hidden in bushes. The bags contained a substance weighing 81.2 pounds suspected to be cannabis.

The suspected narcotics have been lodged with the Officer-in-Charge of the Narcotics Branch as investigations continue.
