West Indies Legends honoured by Everest Cricket Club

West Indies fast-bowling legends Courtney Walsh and Sir Curtly Ambrose have been presented with honorary life memberships to the Everest Cricket Club in Georgetown.

Walsh, currently Head Coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors women’s team, received the honour on Thursday evening.

Walsh, who captained the West Indies and finished his Test career with a then-world record 519 wickets, has a deep connection with Guyana.

During the ceremony, he noted that “it feels like home at the facility whenever he is in Guyana,” and he expressed his appreciation for the club’s hospitality and the high-quality treatment of his women’s team.

The event served as a formal honour and a team-bonding exercise for the Guyana Amazon Warriors women, who were present with their coach. Walsh, a known dominoes enthusiast, even participated in a mini-competition hosted by the club.

Everest Cricket Club executive Safraz Sheriffudeen spoke of his childhood admiration for the two fast-bowling icons, stating that the club was deeply honoured to host such celebrated stalwarts.

The club’s President, Manzoor Nadir, emphasised a commitment to future development, stating that it will continue investing in its facilities to become a top-tier sporting venue in Guyana.

Due to other commitments, Sir Curtly Ambrose, who famously took 405 Test wickets for the West Indies, could not attend the ceremony but will receive his honorary membership card later.
