“I had a good run,” former Member of Parliament Mervyn Williams declared as he announced his resignation from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R) and its Central Executive Committee.

In a televised address following an interview with Dr Terrence Campbell, Williams made the announcement and said the decision was taken with a “heavy heart” but was inevitable given what he described as “unfortunate occurrences” that came to his attention in recent weeks.

Williams, who once secured the second-highest number of votes at the party’s biennial Congress, said his choice to step away was not sudden. He explained that he had been contemplating the move even before September 1 but delayed out of “duty, commitment, and loyalty” to the party.

While he did not specify the issues that influenced his departure, Williams extended gratitude to party members and supporters for their “love, warm affection, and tremendous support” during his tenure. He also thanked the executive, his colleagues, and the party leader for the opportunity to serve, particularly through the PNC’s programme Nation Watch.

Reaffirming his broader mission, Williams pledged to remain a strong voice for Guyana’s Indigenous peoples and to continue advocating for justice, fairness, and equality “until the day of my last breath.”
