Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Monday evening on Regent Street, Bourda, Georgetown, involving a security guard and a man accused of tampering with telecommunications infrastructure.

At approximately 21:45 hrs, police responded to reports of gunfire near Classic Styles Boutique. Investigations revealed that the victim, 38-year-old Quacy Jandoo — unemployed and of no fixed place of abode — was approached by Ryan Weekes, a 38-year-old Supernumerary Constable attached to KGM Security Services. An argument reportedly broke out between the two men, after which Weekes allegedly drew a firearm and discharged a round that struck Jandoo in the left thigh.

Police say Jandoo managed to flee into a nearby yard before being located at a known ‘drug block’ in the vicinity. He was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was admitted in stable condition for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Weekes, when questioned, told police he was on duty at the Classic Collection building on Regent Street from 19:00 hrs, armed with a .32 pistol and a magazine containing ten matching rounds. According to his statement, he heard noises near the front of the building and discovered Jandoo cutting a GTT cable with a hacksaw blade.

Weekes alleged that he called on Jandoo to stop, but an argument ensued. Jandoo then allegedly brandished a cutlass and attacked him, prompting Weekes to draw his service pistol and fire a shot in self-defence.

The firearm has been seized by police, and Weekes remains in custody assisting with the investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any charges will be filed, and investigations are ongoing.
