Fresh off a prolific season with Billesdon Cricket Club in the Leicestershire and Rutland 50-over Cricket League in England, Guyanese fast bowler Joshua Jones is aiming to extend that form to the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Inter-County 50-over competition.

Jones, a Corporal in the Guyana Defence Force, has been named in the Select XI squad for the tournament, set to bowl off on October 11.

The Essequibian is eager to showcase the development in his game, having spent the last few months in England fine-tuning his skills.

Joshua Jones was a standout performer with ball and bat for Billesdon Cricket Club

“I’m really looking forward to this Inter-County competition,” the 25-year-old told News Room Sport.

“It’s a very important tournament for me, because I see this is as another opportunity to not just continue my journey to making the senior national team, but also build on what I’ve learnt in England.”

Jones, a former national youth cricketer, reckoned that the stint with Billesdon Cricket Club was an eye-opening experience, one that has had a positive impact on his career.

The right-armer broke the record for the most wickets in a season, bagging 72 wickets from 21 matches. His haul included 7-36, 6-18, 5-31, 5-71 and 5-76.

Jones also exhibited his all-round prowess, amassing 333 runs with two fifties, the highest being 66 not out.

“I learnt a lot and I want to use this Inter-County as a stepping stone to greater things. I certainly have a greater understanding of the game, having played in different conditions, and I’m really excited to hit the ground running for the Select XI,” Jones explained.
