APNU lead for Parliament Terrence Campbell says WIN’s Reg. 10 candidate ‘arrogant’ 

APNU’s lead Parliamentarian Terrence Campbell defended his party members’ actions a day before in the vote for a new Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), stating that WIN’s candidate, Mark Goring was “unpopular and arrogant.”

The election of a new Chairman for the Region 10 Regional Democratic Council (RDC) ended in a tie on Friday, after the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) councillors voted alongside the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in support of its nominee, Dominique Blair.

Blair, the APNU’s candidate, secured nine votes, the same number as Mark Goring of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party.

It was reported that WIN and APNU mulled a partnership in the region but those talks broke down. In the absence of that agreement, Campbell explained, APNU went on to serve the interest of the party and its supporters.

“It is rich for anyone to come and say that in the absence of an agreement, the APNU must not push its candidates to the highest offices in the region,” he said in a Facebook video.

Beyond that, however, Campbell suggested that the WIN candidate could not’ve gotten APNU’s or the other parties’ support.

“Their own candidate in Region 10 was a deeply unpopular and arrogant candidate, unpopular even amongst WIN councillors and this is why the other parties decided to support us,” he said.

Before the elections, Goring had referred to himself as the Chairman-elect but there was no such title before the convening.

For the APNU lead Parliamentarian, the newcomer WIN must do some introspection and learn how to collaborate. That would be particularly crucial, he said, in the National Assembly.

According to the Official Gazette, following the 2025 General and Regional Elections, the distribution of seats in Region 10 was as follows: WIN – 9 seats, APNU – 5 seats, PPP/C – 3 seats, and Forward Guyana – 1 seat.

This outcome means that the PPP/C’s three councillors and the Forward Guyana representative joined APNU’s five votes to support Blair’s bid for the Chairmanship—an alignment that effectively blocked WIN’s majority advantage in the region.

Region 10, officially known as Upper Demerara–Upper Berbice, has traditionally been considered a stronghold of the APNU, but WIN’s performance in the 2025 polls reshaped the political landscape, granting it the largest single bloc of council seats.
