EU Delegation in Guyana welcomes new Ambassador Luca Pierantoni
The Delegation of the European Union to Guyana has officially welcomed its new Ambassador, Luca Pierantoni, who will represent the EU in Guyana, Suriname, and with CARICOM.
The announcement was shared via the Delegation’s official Facebook page on Wednesday.
Ambassador Pierantoni brings nearly 25 years of diplomatic experience within the European Union.
His distinguished career began in Sudan (2005–2008) during the height of the Darfur crisis. He later served in Thailand (2008–2013), overseeing EU assistance programs in Burma/Myanmar and along the Thai-Burma border.
From 2014 to 2019, Ambassador Pierantoni was well known in the Caribbean region as the Head of EU Regional Cooperation, initially based in Georgetown, Guyana, and later in Bridgetown, Barbados.
His most recent assignment was in Argentina, where he served as Head of EU Cooperation, followed by a key political role in Italy as the Head of the Political Team at the European Commission’s Representation.
Born in Naples, Italy, Ambassador Pierantoni is a lawyer with specialization in Human Rights and EU Law. His academic and professional background strongly aligns with the EU’s values of democracy, rule of law, and sustainable development.
He will be succeeding Ambassador René Van Nes, who completed his term earlier this year.
The EU Delegation expressed its warm welcome to Ambassador Pierantoni and looks forward to his continued work in strengthening EU partnerships across the region.
