Informant to receive $5M reward for helping police capture gas station bombing suspect

An informant will receive the $5 million reward offered by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) after providing crucial information that led to the arrest of the prime suspect in Sunday night’s deadly gas station explosion in Georgetown.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed to the News Room that the informant’s tip directly assisted investigators in locating the suspect, Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, a Venezuelan national.

Daniel was apprehended by Police on Tuesday afternoon at Vergenoegen, Region Three, just hours after officers discovered clothing he allegedly wore during the attack at the Mobil Gas Station at Regent and King Streets, Georgetown.

The arrest came shortly after the Police Force issued a $5 million reward for information on the suspect’s whereabouts.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Blanhum revealed that Daniel has since confessed to his involvement in the crime.

Investigations revealed that he entered Guyana illegally by boat only hours before the explosion, bringing the device used in the attack, which carried a switch with him.

The tragic blast claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne and left several of her relatives injured.

Police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident Daniel and nine other suspects remain in custody.
