A woman has issued a public warning after her National Identification Card was allegedly misused by scammers attempting to collect money from unsuspecting individuals through MMG’s Money Order feature.

In a Facebook post earlier this week, a woman who goes by the name Darian Gomes said she recently fell victim to a rental scam while searching for an apartment in the Providence, East Bank Demerara area. She explained that the scammers had advertised a green, two-bedroom house for rent and requested a copy of his ID under the guise of preparing a rental agreement.

“Unfortunately, I shared it before realising something was off,” Gomes said.

She noted that while he did not lose any money, the fraudsters may now attempt to use her personal information to defraud others.

“I’ve already tried reporting the matter to the police and will continue to pursue a formal complaint about the potential misuse of my ID,” she added.

Gomes shared a photo of the ID that was reportedly used in the attempted transactions and urged the public to remain vigilant.

“Please do not send any money in my name or to anyone claiming to represent me, especially under the pretense of securing or viewing a rental property,” she cautioned.

She encouraged anyone contacted by persons claiming to be her or acting on her behalf in such transactions to treat it as a scam and report it immediately.
