G/town drainage plan: Consultations to get underway from next week 

A major citywide drainage upgrade programme is being advanced by the government, and President Dr Irfaan Ali announced that robust consultations with citizens will be held starting Monday.

The multi-agency team, the President said, will lead consultations for about three weeks. The goal is to share the government’s plans for majorly improving Georgetown’s drainage network and hear suggestions or concerns from citizens.

President Ali said the programme will first involve clearing, cleaning, and levelling all parapets. Once the drainage network is upgraded, the President said other matters like parking and the city’s beautification will be dealt with too.

“This will lead to enormous improvement in your property price and of course, the value of the city itself,” President Ali said.

This drainage upgrade is part of a wider Georgetown revitalisation programme. The President said previously that the revitalisation of Georgetown is not optional but an essential part of Guyana’s broader development agenda, aimed at creating a cleaner, greener, and more liveable capital for all citizens.
