Amid announcements of further support for rice farmers and fisherfolk, President Dr Irfaan Ali on Wednesday confirmed that cash grants for individuals and various vulnerable groups will be announced before the end of this year.

“… I’m going to announce, before the end of the year, a series of measures, not only looking at cash grants, but looking at the total empowerment of every Guyanese, whether someone living with disability, the elderly, children, women, small businesses, farmers, you name it, every category,” President Ali during an interview with the News Room’s Vishani Ragobeer ahead of COP30 in Brazil.

These comprehensive measures, the President explained, are not one-off but will be for the government’s five-year term in office.

However, he said disbursements will be done in a more organised manner. As such, he urged each Guyanese to open bank accounts- a venture made much easier now that local banks are allowing persons to open accounts online much easier.

“So let us use this period, and we are using this period also to put the mechanism in place, and finalise the system of delivery,” Dr. Ali urged.
