‘Full-scale’ golf course coming to Silica City as gov’t nears investment deal – Croal

Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, has announced that plans are well advanced for the addition of a “full-scale” golf course to the ambitious Silica City development project along the Linden–Soesdyke Highway.

Speaking during an appearance on the Starting Point programme on Wednesday, Croal said the government is in the final stages of securing an agreement with a major investor for the facility.

“We are very near to be able to sign the agreement that is for a golf course. And I am not talking about the nine-hole golf course here. I am talking for the full works.

“We are engaging a serious investor…both sides are finalizing the agreement. We want to be able to give ourselves no longer than a week to be in a position to have that signed,” Croal revealed.

He emphasised that Silica City is designed to be more than just a housing development.

While construction has already begun on 110 houses under Phase One—with some completed and others in varying stages—Phase Two will focus on diaspora housing units, with expressions of interest expected to be issued soon.

In fact, he said Silica City’s master plan includes several modern amenities aimed at promoting wellness, innovation, and sustainable urban living.

Among the planned facilities are a wellness centre, a health complex, a home for the elderly, and areas designated for sports tourism.

“Housing is just one aspect.

“There are different aspects that will keep coming on board. We have a master plan in place that we are implementing,” Croal said, noting that the overall project is on target and that occupancy will begin over the next few years.

Silica City, which is envisioned as Guyana’s first smart and sustainable city, forms part of the government’s broader effort to transform the Linden–Soesdyke Highway corridor into a thriving economic and residential zone.
