Sophia woman leaves partner for dead at hospital, goes into hiding after fatal stabbing

A 25-year-old labourer was left dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after being stabbed by his reputed wife during an argument on Wednesday evening and the woman has since gone into hiding.

Dead is Akeem Evans of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, who was reportedly attacked around 18:10 hrs at the couple’s home in the lower flat of a two-storey concrete house owned by Evans’ parents.

Police said the couple became embroiled in a heated argument during which the woman allegedly armed herself with a sharp object and stabbed Evans once to the chest.

Public-spirited persons rushed both Evans and the woman to the GPHC for treatment, but upon arrival, Evans was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. Moments later, the suspect fled the hospital and has not been seen since.

Police have launched a search for the woman, who is believed to be hiding as investigators continue to probe the fatal domestic altercation.

Evans’ body is at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
