Ramlall sisters, Adams spur Guyana to 102-75 win over Bahamas

The Ramlall sisters- Amisha, Arshia and Ashna- and Ruth Adams combined for 80 points as Guyana thumped Bahamas 102-75 in a commanding display in Game Two of the FIBA Caribbean Women’s Basketball Championship at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Wednesday night.

Earlier in the day in the opening match of the championship, hosted in Guyana for the first time since 1994, Jamaica pulled off a clinical 86-47 win over Suriname.

Amisha was the standout player for the host nation with a team-high 33 points, five rebounds and three assists and an outstanding six-of-eight from the three-point range; Arshia had 13 and Ashna 12, while Adams dropped 22 points (four rebounds, two assists) as the Guyanese completed a dominant performance in front of a vociferous home crowd.

Skipper Joy Adams-Brown also got into double-figures with 12 points (10 assists, seven rebounds).

In a high-tempo opening quarter, Guyana led 32-25 with Sport Ministers Charles Ramson Jr. and Steven Jacobs, President of the Guyana Olympic Association Godfrey Munroe, Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, Assistant Director Franklin Wilson and Chairman of the National Sports Commission Kashif Muhammad watching from the sidelines.

Bahamas had a better second quarter, which ended 16-15 in Guyana’s favour as the scores read 48-40 at half-time.

The Guyanese then opened the gap on the visitors with 28-17, 26-18 performances in the final two quarters to close out the contest.

Valerie Nesbitt with a game-high 35 points and Lashann Higgs with 23 did the heavy lifting for Bahamas.

The tournament continues at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Thursday with Bahamas playing Suriname from 16:30h as both teams aim for their first win, followed by Guyana against US Virgin Islands from 20:30h in the feature clash.

The top three teams at the end of the tournament on Sunday will earn coveted spots at the 2026 Centrobasket Women’s Championship.
