Gas station bombing, other attacks not seemingly linked- Top Cop

Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken on Friday revealed that last month’s bombing attack at the Mobil gas station in Georgetown appears to be unrelated to two other similar incidents which occurred earlier this year.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the Force’s Christmas Policing Plan on Friday, Hicken said the investigations show no evidence of collaboration between the incidents.

“Based on our investigation, there is no motive that would point us to the collaboration of the others,” Hicken said.

“To be sure, this happened and we have ramped up, as Joint Services, all the gaps that we have. Now, as a joint service, we can better protect our country,” Hicken said.

When asked about the motive behind the gas station incident in particular, Hicken responded: “That cannot be said at this time, you know the matter is before the court.”

The bombing at the Mobil gas station at Regent and King Streets on October 26 tragically claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne.

Seven individuals, including alleged mastermind Venezuelan national Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo, have been charged with terrorism and are currently before the courts.

Months before this, there were incidents involving explosions at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost and the Guyana Power and Light Substation at Mandela Avenue.
