Motorcyclist dies after colliding with pickup in Lethem

A 22-year-old motorcyclist, Barth Paul, died following a collision with a motor pickup along the Barrack Retreat Corridor in Lethem, Region Nine.

The accident occurred at about 13:00hrs on Thursday.

According to Police Headquarters, both vehicles involved are Brazil-registered. The pickup was being driven by a 46-year-old Brazilian national who resides in Central Lethem.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Paul was travelling west along the southern carriageway, while the pickup was proceeding north on the western side of the roadway. At the junction where both paths met, a collision occurred between the two vehicles. As a result, the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries to his head and about his body.

He was picked up by the Emergency Medical Technicians from the Lethem Regional Hospital and taken to the facility, where he was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup is in custody.

Investigations are ongoing.
