The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is accelerating its digitisation drive as part of a comprehensive plan to tackle crime and improve public safety nationwide.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, speaking during the launch of the force’s Christmas policing plan on Friday, highlighted that technology has already played a key role in solving major crimes.

“The command center that we have has been doing well for us. We have to digitise the force so we can start taking occurrences on the computer,” Hicken said, emphasising that the move is in line with President Irfaan Ali’s goal to digitise services.

The force, Hicken said, plans to replicate the success of its existing command center across all regions.

“Right now, we have a safe city. When all the regions have the command center, then we are going to go to a safe country.

“When you have cameras all over the country, anytime you move or you breathe, we are going to have it replicated and you are going to be charged,” Hicken said.

The initiative, set to intensify this year and into next, marks a significant step toward modernising policing in Guyana.
