Golf attraction draws thousands to GuyExpo Tourism Village
Press Release from Nexgen Golf
GuyExpo’s Tourism Village once again proved to be a massive hit as the Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority delivered a show-stopping attraction that pulled in thousands over the four-day festival.
The Dr. Bharat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge Mini-Golf Display, designed and managed by Nexgen Golf, was a key feature that brought nonstop crowds and introduced many Guyanese to golf for the very first time.
From toddlers clutching their first putter to grandparents confidently stepping up to the greens, the mini-golf attraction became a hub of excitement, laughter and unforgettable first-time experiences in the sport.
But the highlight of the event came when Minister of Tourism Susan Rodrigues lit up the putting green with an incredible performance- sinking two Hole-in-One putts back-to-back.
Her feat overshadowed the spirited efforts of Ministers Collin Croal, Bishop Juan Edghill, Dr. Ashni Singh, Oneidge Waldron, Steven Jacobs and even Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, much to the delight of the cheering crowd.
Director of Tourism Kamrul Baksh praised the success of the Tourism Village, stating, “The success of Tourism Village at GuyExpo has been our ability to promote local tourism activities and tourism operators, foods, music, beverages, and combine that with the amazing creativity by Nexgen Golf over the past few years, demonstrating that sport is an important and developing aspect of the tourism market.”
President of the Guyana Golf Association Aleem Hussain, who designed and built the attraction alongside Geru Gordon, expressed gratitude for the strong partnerships behind the activation.
“The collaboration with the GTA has been a remarkable success and is in part thanks to our CPCE hinterland PE teachers, our staff, sponsors, the entire Guyana Tourism Authority team and Mr. Singh, CEO of NAREI, who has been a part of our display efforts over the past few years.”
Hussain also encouraged the public to continue engaging with the sport beyond GuyExpo, noting that golf is accessible and affordable to all with their facilities at Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, and Crane Roundabout, Vreed-en-Hoop, welcoming players of all ages for less than G$500 per person.
The overwhelming turnout at this year’s GuyExpo confirms what many already know- golf is rapidly becoming one of Guyana’s most engaging and family-friendly sporting attractions.
