Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, has paid tribute to five-time national triple jump champion Domon Williams, mourning the athlete’s loss while emphasising his impact both on and off the field.

Williams, widely recognised as Guyana’s most stellar triple jumpers, passed away recently following a brief period of illness.

Williams, who had been based in Jamaica, consistently represented Guyana with pride and distinction, most recently placing sixth at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.

In extending heartfelt condolences to Williams’ family, friends, and the wider athletics fraternity, Ninvalle underscored that the loss is felt deeply across the entire sporting community.

Ninvalle focused heavily on the champion’s character and commitment, emphasising the values Williams embodied throughout his career:

“The National Sports Commission shares the loss of Domon Williams with the entire track and field fraternity,” Ninvalle said. “His reputation speaks to the passion he had for the disciplines he loved and the pride with which he represented Guyana.”

Williams was known for his dominance on the local circuit, holding an unbroken streak at the National Championships and maintaining a powerful personal best of 16.44m, which the Director noted was a testament to his exceptional talent and work ethic.

The Director of Sport highlighted that Williams’ influence extended well past the competition area, leaving an enduring mark on the next generation of Guyanese athletes.

“Domon will also be missed for what he brought to the sport off the field of competition,” Ninvalle added.

“He inspired many young athletes and carried himself with a humility and dedication that earned him respect wherever he went.”

Ninvalle concluded by stating that Williams’ passing leaves a significant void in Guyana’s athletics landscape, but his legacy of achievement and inspiration will remain a driving force for fellow athletes, coaches, and aspiring jumpers across the country.
