Firearm found in Herstelling man’s house


Police found a .38 revolver in the Herstelling, East Bank Demerara house of a 23-year-old man who was arrested on Wednesday after he acted in a disorderly manner at the Farm/ Herstelling Police Station.
In a release, Police said a 39-year-old Barber of Herstelling reported that a 27-year-old male of the said village had visited his home and allegedly threatened him with a firearm.
Police responded and arrested the 27-year-old suspect. A search was conducted on his person and at his residence, but no firearm was found.
Later, about 08:30hrs, a 23-year-old AC Technician of Herstelling visited the Farm/Herstelling Police Station in connection with the same matter.
During the interaction, Police said, the 23-year-old man began behaving in a disorderly manner. He was cautioned but continued, resulting in his arrest.
A search of his person revealed one live .32 round of ammunition, and he was unable to produce a firearm licence.
Police subsequently escorted the 23-year-old suspect to his residence, where a search was conducted in the presence of a relative. During the search, ranks discovered a suspected .38 revolver concealed in a bag in the sitting room area.
The firearm and ammunition were processed and lodged as exhibits. Both men are in custody as the investigation continues.
