Allicock, Amsterdam to fight on Bris-O Promotions/CBO Boxing Day card

Bris-O Promotions and the newly-formed Caribbean Boxing Organisation (CBO) have teamed up with the Guyana Boxing Board of Control and the Guyana Boxing Association to stage what is so far a six-fight card on Boxing Day at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, featuring Guyanese duo Keevin Allicock and Desmond Amsterdam.

The card, set to showcase pugilists from seven Caribbean nations, will be headlined by a Featherweight clash between Olympian Allicock and Yendy Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic, while Amsterdam will fight in the main supporting bout- a Super Middleweight contest- against Wilson Fernandez, also of the Dominican Republic.

The other Guyanese on the card- Terrence Adams- is pitted against Anthony Joseph of Trinidad and Tobago in a Catchweight bout.

The opening fight will see Tianna Guy of Trinidad and Tobago up against Carol Paniague of the Dominican Republic in a Lightweight contest, while Tyreec Tait of Barbados and Rickenson Henry of Grenada will collide in a Middleweight clash, and Rashelid Williams of Bahamas will face Nico Yeyo of Jamaica in the Welterweight division.

On Friday, CEO of Bris-O Promotions and president of the CBO Seon Bristol, president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control Peter Abdool and president of the Guyana Boxing Association Steve Ninvalle update the media on plans for the card.

The CBO is a conglomerate of promoters of Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Martin, Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada and Curacao.

Seon Bristol: “This has been a vision that has now become a reality. Thanks to many members and promoters in the Caribbean that I’ve been able to make contact with to create what we have now- the Caribbean Boxing Organisation. One of the things we have emphasised on highly is to always include all of boxing in all of our cards. This is the first card we will be staging and I’m happy to know that both the amateur and professional bodies were more than willing to be a part of this boxing experience.”

Peter Abdool: “The CBO was really the brainchild of Seon, who rounded up and got in touch with and eventually associated himself with promoters from several Caribbean islands. The initiative is an excellent one in terms of the fact that promoters are very, very badly needed in the sport of boxing. In fact, boxing cannot go on without them- it’s simple as that! Generally speaking, when Guyana boxes, the entire Caribbean boxes. And when Guyana does not box, all of sudden it seems like our Caribbean fortunes suffer as well.”

Steve Ninvalle: “From the Guyana Boxing Association we have our part to do, and I can say this without fear of being contradicted that we will make sure that we put our best foot forward. I can also say that on the amateur segment of the card our South American champion Alesha Jackman will be appearing. The other fights we are still to plan, but those will be issued soon. To the fans, I would want to say that you’d be in a much more comfortable environment than you have been accustomed to because of the fact that the government has seen it fit to have the Sports Hall refurbished, so you will be sitting in an air conditioned facility.”
