Police ranks to start using computers for report taking soon – Hicken

In a major step toward modernisation, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken on Friday announced that, in the coming months, all ranks in the force will begin taking reports electronically.

“The force, as we speak, is going through a process of digitising, and the most junior ranks in the force will be taking reports via computers, so the processing of information will be more accurate than we are seeing now.

“We are going to relax a lot of pushing of papers, and we are going to be digitising the force for proper accountability,” Hicken said in his address to ranks gathered at the Force’s annual Christmas awards ceremony.

The move, Hicken said, will eliminate much of the paperwork currently used and ensure that information is processed more accurately and efficiently.

Hicken explained that this new approach is part of a broader strategy to embed technological adaptability into the force.

The digital reporting system is expected to be fully implemented within six to ten months and will form a key pillar in the Force’s 2027–2031 strategic plan.

“This is about modernising the Guyana Police Force so it can evolve with the pace and ambition of a modern nation,” Hicken said.
